Freshman Aven Baxter Steps Up in Close Battle Against Defending Champs Hesperia Christian
In a hard-fought non-league matchup against 2024 Division V Champions Hesperia Christian, Bethel Christian fell just short in a 7-10 loss, but the effort and energy were undeniable. The game remained tight from start to finish, and despite the outcome, freshman Aven Baxter stood out with a Player of the Game performance.
In her first year playing softball, Aven made a big impact on the defensive side in right field. She came up with two clutch catches on deep pop flies, one in the 4th inning and another in the 5th, both stopping potential scoring threats. Aven’s aggressive mindset in the outfield—charging the ball, keeping it in front, and playing it off the fence with confidence—was key in keeping Bethel within striking distance.
While the scoreboard didn’t tilt in Bethel’s favor, the game was a strong showing of growth, effort, and grit—qualities that Aven Baxter embodied from the first pitch to the last out.
Keep up the hard work Aven!
